- Remove steering shaft boot (gaiter) and needle bearing
- Disconnect steering shaft joint from steering gear
- Installation
- Install:
- Install steering shaft boot
- Thread the inner section of boot around metal collar in firewall panel, ensuring a good seal all round
- Lubricate inner side of locking ring with soapy water
- Fold down the outer section of the boot towards the snap ring flange. Make sure it is in contact all around
- Install steering column mounting and steering shaft
- Install steering column
- Center column in dashboard opening
- Install the contact reel and tighten to 2.5 Nm
- Install ignition switch interlock cable (certain variants)
- Install knee bolster (certain variants)
- Reset and lock contact reel
- Zero the contact reel
- Lock the contact reel in this position with the locking screw
- Install steering wheel
- Reconnect battery ground cable. Drive the car straight ahead. Check that steering wheel is in straight-ahead position
- When the steering wheel is straight:
- Switch off ignition
- Install steering wheel module
- Check function
- Final check
- Check any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Steering column/steering shaft/seal/bearing/lower steering shaft universal joint, replacement. Cars without SRS.
- Notes
- Disconnect the battery's minus cable
- Remove the steering wheel
- Remove:
- Pull out the ignition
- Let down the steering column's cable harness in the middle
- Bearing/steering column/steering shaft/gaiter with bearing/lower steering shaft universal joint, replacement
- Installation
- Install the steering shaft universal joint on the steering gear. Tighten with 20 Nm
- Different pinion versions
- Install the steering shaft gaiter
- Fit the inner part of the gaiter around the sheet metal collar in the bulkhead plate so that it seals tight all the way around
- Lubricate the inside of the lock ring with soapy water
- Fold down the outer part of the gaiter against the lock ring's flange. Make sure that it has contact all the way around
- Install:
- Install the steering column
- Center the steering column in relation to the instrument panel's slot
- Install the steering wheel casing
- Adjusting friction for steering wheel position adjustment
