- Disconnect kickdown cable at throttle cable. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 upper transmission-to-engine bolts. Remove transmission oil dipstick tube.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove drain plug and drain transmission fluid. Disconnect shift linkage, oil filter tube and oil cooler lines.CAUTION: On vehicles with front rubber drive shaft flange, flange should only be disconnected from transmission. DO NOTΒ disconnect from drive shaft. Disconnecting drive shaft from flange may cause an imbalance. On standard (non-rubber) drive shafts, always replace the 4 retaining bolts and nuts.
- Remove drive shaft. Remove starter motor bolts and torque converter-to-flexplate bolts. Disconnect solenoid valve plug. Disconnect exhaust pipe bracket.
- Place transmission jack under transmission. Remove rear crossmember. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts. Lower transmission.
