- Remove side bearings with Puller (2483 ), taking care not to damage shims. Mark left and right bearings and shims for reassembly. Index differential case halves and mark differential gear shafts for reassembly.
- Remove bolts holding case halves together, noting that Type 1030 axle uses bolts with left-hand threads. Open differential case and remove side gears, side gear retainers, friction plates, friction discs, and pinion gears with spider.
- Index ring gear to differential case half for reassembly. Remove and discard bolts holding ring gear to case. Remove ring gear from differential case.
