Engine Compression

1987 Volvo 240 GL, 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Engine Compression

Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Disconnect single wire from negative terminal of ignition coil. Check compression with all spark plugs removed, throttle valve wide open and at normal cranking speed (250-300 RPM). Maximum variation between cylinders must not exceed 28 psi (2 kg/cm2 ).

NOTE: On vehicles with LH-Jetronic injection, failure to disconnect ignition coil negative terminal may cause damage to ignition system control unit(s).
