Transmission Code Letters, Reading
The transmission code letters are on the transmission in at least two different locations.
On the transmission near the selector lever cable -two arrows-.
If these cannot be read, the transmission code letters can also be read under the transmission mount bracket.
To read the transmission code letters under the bracket directly from the transmission, the engine and transmission must be supported. The transmission mount bracket -A- must be removed. Lower the engine/transmission just enough until it is possible to slide the bracket toward the rear. If lowered further, the pendulum support could be damaged. After being assembled, the selector lever cable must be adjusted. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .
Perform the Following Work:
-- Remove the air filter housing, refer to one of the following:
- Vehicles with a gas engine, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING OVERVIEW .
- Vehicles with a diesel engine, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .
-- Remove the battery, the battery tray bolts -arrows- and tray. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the engine support bridge 10-222 A and support the engine/transmission. Do not lift up yet.
-- Remove the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts -2-.
-- Remove the transmission mount bracket -A- to transmission bolts -1-.
The bolts must be replaced.
-- Then, lower the engine/transmission slightly using the spindles until the bracket can be removed.
In most cases, 2 turns on the spindles are enough to remove the transmission mount bracket -arrow-.
After reading the transmission code letters, reassemble in reverse order of removal.
-- Follow all instructions.
-- Replace all the bolts for the transmission mount and bracket.
-- First, install all new bolts by hand.
-- Install the transmission mount bracket -A- to the transmission using the bolts -1-. Then install the transmission mount to bracket bolts -2-. Refer to one of the following:
