Engine, Installing: Notes
Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Route lines of all types (for example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
- To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
-- Insert new centering sleeves for centering the transmission to the cylinder block.
-- Engage the intermediate plate at the sealing flange and slide it onto centering sleeves -arrows-.
with a Manual Transmission
-- Working on the clutch, refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4] Clutch[For transmission(s) 02Q] Clutch[For transmission(s) 02E] Clutch .
with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG®)
-- Working on the clutch, refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4] Clutch[For transmission(s) 02Q] Clutch[For transmission(s) 02E] Clutch .
-- Replace the needle bearings in the crankshaft. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING .
-- Pay attention to the selector lever cable.

-- When installing the engine and transmission assembly, check for clearance to the subframe as well as to the radiator.
-- Adjust the engine and/or transmission mounts. Refer to ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
with a Manual Transmission
-- Install the shift mechanism to the transmission. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 02E] Removal and Installation .
with a DSG®
-- Install the selector lever cable to the transmission. Refer to Removal And Installation .

Electrical connections and routing, refer to 97 WIRING .
-- Observe the safety precautions after connecting the battery. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
-- Reset the lock carrier service position. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
-- Fill the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories of all control modules and erase any faults that may have been stored. Refer to "OBD" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
-- Perform a road test.
-- Perform a vehicle system test and correct any faults.
