The 4.0L water pump has a die cast aluminum housing (3) and a plastic swept vane impeller (2). It bolts directly to the right rear timing belt cover using an O-ring for sealing. The water pump is driven by the engine timing belt.

The water pump is used to circulate coolant through the cooling system. The coolant is pumped through the engine block, cylinder head, heater core, cabin heater, and radiator.
