NOTE:

Replacement part number for radio unit is located on a sticker on the radio unit housing.

If radio unit is replaced, always activate antitheft coding. Refer to the Owner's Manual. Give the new code number to the customer.

If the antitheft code is not known, you can retrieve it via the known systems. For retrieval, you need the radio unit identification number. It is on a sticker attached to the side of the radio unit. The identification number is also stamped in the material in the side of the radio unit.

The CD changer in the RCD 500 has a transportation safeguard that must be deactivated when a new unit is installed. The transportation safeguard must also be switched on in an uninstalled unit before shipping. To do this, the RCD 500 must still be connected to the voltage supply. The RCD 500 radio consists of radio unit, 6 disc CD changer integrated in radio unit and speakers in doors.

Radio unit is equipped with an end stage with 4x20 watt output performance. Speakers are designed as 3-way system at the front and as 2-way system at the rear.

The RCD 500 radio is available as a version which operates the speakers via 4 unit-internal speaker outputs or as a version with an additional external amplifier. The speakers are then connected directly to the sound system amplifier and the radio speaker outputs are used for the amplifier input.

For the radio system RCD 500, the following speakers are installed:

  • in the front doors there is respectively one bass speaker, one mid-range speaker and one treble speaker.
  • one bass speaker and one treble speaker each in rear doors on 4-door vehicles.
  • one base speaker and one treble speaker each in side trim on 2-door vehicles.

For expanding functions, there are connection options for an additional sound system amplifier, a telephone muting and a signal input for telephone LF signal.

The 6-disc CD changer integrated in the radio unit can also play back CDs in CD-R and CD-RW formats, as well as normal audio CDs.

NOTE:

In vehicles from 09.05, an optional version of the RCD 500 is available that can also play CDs with music files in mp3 format in addition to standard audio CDs. For more information, refer to the RCD 500 Owner's Manual.

Music CDs with 8 cm diameter (mini-discs) cannot be played back.

Mix CDs (CDs that contain computer data and also music) cannot be played.

The antenna installed is a window antenna and is located in the rear windshield. The antenna system version has the diversity function.
