  • Vehicle stationary
  • Battery (B+) voltage at least 11.5 V
  • Automatic transmission selector lever in "P" or "N" position
  • All electrical consumers (e.g. lights and rear window defroster) switched off
  • Coolant temperature must be 5-95 ° C → display group 04, display field 3
  • Intake air temperature less than 60 ° C → display group 04, display field 4

Step 1: Check DTC memory

Indicated on display (number of stored DTCs, or "No DTC recognized" ).

If one or more DTCs are stored, the stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

Step 2: Erase DTC memory

Step 6: Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) diagnostic 

NOTE:
  • The diagnostic will only be terminated if the oxygen sensor aging diagnostic is first successfully completed.

  • The engine control module will increase the engine speed.
  • Check catalyst conversion (amplitude ratio) in display field 3: Specification: max. 0.50
  • Allow engine to run at increased idle until specification: "Cat B1 OK" is displayed in display field 4.

If the diagnostic is initiated from Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) J220 the display in display field 4 changes from "Test OFF" to "Test ON."

NOTE:
  • The diagnostic takes approx. 100 seconds.

  • The engine must not be loaded during this diagnostic because the diagnostic will be interrupted and will not be started again until the engine is revved-up.

  • Open fuel tank cap briefly to allow pressure in fuel tank to dissipate (this will close reed contact).

If the diagnostic is initiated from Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) J220 the display in display field 4 changes from "Test OFF" to "Test ON."

  • If the display in display field 4 changes from "Test ON" to "Test OFF" during diagnostic, and "Abort" is displayed in display field 2, repeat EVAP system/ fuel tank leak detection.
  • The fuel filler cap must be opened briefly before repeating the diagnostic.
