Scan Tool VAG 1551, Connecting And Function Selection

Note:
^ ABS function is switched off in Control Module during On-Board Diagnostic (OBD).
^ Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory can be erased after successful checking and repair.





- Pull out cover -1- to rear.
- With ignition off connect VAG 1551 using cable VAG 1551/3 to Data Link Connector (DLC).





Indicated on display
1) Displayed alternately
If display remains blank, check Data Link Connector (DLC), Electrical check

Note:
^ Press VAG 1551 HELP button for additional operating information.
^ Press -> button to move forward within program
^ PRINT button is for switching on printer (warning lamp in button comes on).

- Switch on ignition.
- Switch on printer with Print button (indicator light in button illuminates).
- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" operating mode.





Indicated on display
- Press buttons -0- and -3-, -03- inputs address word of vehicle system to be tested "Brake Electronics".





Indicated on display
- Confirm input with -Q- button.

^ Control Module identification number.

^ System designation (ABS 20 IE)

- Press -> button.

^ To print a list of functions press HELP button:





Indicated on display; (Function selection, e.g. -02- -check DTC memory)

Note:
^ If following DTC information appears in display, possible causes of malfunction can be printed out by pressing HELP button.





A possible cause is inlet/outlet valve fuse -S9-.





Ignition must be on.





Control Module identification influenced during diagnosis (possibly influenced from external sources?)
- Check Data Link Connector (DLC), voltage supply and ground connection for ABS Control Module -J104-, Electrical check.
- After correcting DTC, enter address word -03- for "Brake electronics" and confirm with -Q- button.
