Replacement [10/2023 - ]: Procedure
- DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL (except Torque Vectoring Differential)
- Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
- Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.
- Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket.
- Drain the differential oil.
- Install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.
Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
- DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Torque Vectoring Differential)
- Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Move aside the No. 2 differential disconnect cover.
- Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.
- Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket.
- Drain the differential oil.
- Install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.
Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
- ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL (except Torque Vectoring Differential)
- Add the differential oil so that the oil level is within 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) of the bottom of the filler hole.
*a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) NOTE:Excessively large or small quantities of oil may cause problems.
Oil capacity (Reference)
0.45 to 0.55 liters (0.48 to 0.58 US qts., 0.40 to 0.48 Imp. qts.)
Oil type
Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5, Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LX SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent
- Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.
Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
- Drive the vehicle and check the oil level again. If necessary, add differential oil.
- Add the differential oil so that the oil level is within 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) of the bottom of the filler hole.
- ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Torque Vectoring Differential)
- Add the differential oil so that the oil level is within 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) of the bottom of the filler hole.
*a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) NOTE:- Excessively large or small quantities of oil may cause problems.
- Using differential oil other than the specified oil may cause abnormal noise or vibration, or damage the differential of your vehicle.

0.50 to 0.54 liters (0.53 to 0.57 US qts, 0.44 to 0.47 Imp. qts)

Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LX
- Move aside the No. 2 differential disconnect cover.
- Using SST, 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and union nut wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.
- SST: 09961-00950
Specified tightening torque
Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
HINT:
- Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

- When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)):
19.9 N.m (203 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf)
*a 10 mm Straight Hexagon Wrench *b Union Nut Wrench *c Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length - Install the 2 bolts.
Torque: 19.6 N.m (200 kgf/cm, 14 ft.lbf)
- Drive the vehicle and check the oil level again. If necessary, add differential oil.
- Add the differential oil so that the oil level is within 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) of the bottom of the filler hole.
