Rear Bumper: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

HINT:

  • Installation is in the reverse order of removal. However, when there is a special point concerning installation, it is indicated.
  • A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (see STANDARD BOLT ).
  1. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT 
  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM HOOK NO. 1 
    1. Remove the bolt and luggage compartment trim hook.
    2. Use the same manner described above to the other luggage compartment trim hook.
  3. REMOVE REAR FLOOR FINISH PLATE 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 3 clips, 2 bolts and luggage compartment trim cover inner.
    2. Disconnect the 4 clips and remove the rear floor finish plate.

  4. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER INNER RH 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips and luggage compartment trim cover inner.
  5. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER INNER LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  6. REMOVE REAR BUMPER COVER 
    1. Remove the 8 nuts, 4 bolts and 2 screws.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 clips.
    3. Disconnect the side hooks and remove the rear bumper cover.

  7. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SIDE RETAINER NO. 3 RH 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 3 clips and rear bumper side retainer.
  8. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SIDE RETAINER NO. 3 LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  9. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SIDE RETAINER RH 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the clip and rear bumper side retainer.
  10. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SIDE RETAINER LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  11. REMOVE REAR BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER 
  12. REMOVE REAR BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER NO. 2 
  13. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SEAL 
  14. REMOVE REAR BUMPER BAR 
  15. REMOVE REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 6 nuts and rear bumper reinforcement.
  16. INSTALL REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT NO. 1 
    1. Install the rear bumper reinforcement with 6 nuts.

      Torque: 68 N.m (693 kgf.cm, 50 ft.lbf)
