Front Bumper: Replacement
2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

HINT:
- Installation is in the reverse order of removal. However, when there is a special point concerning installation, it is indicated.
- A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (see STANDARD BOLT ).
- REMOVE FRONT FENDER LINER LH
- Remove the 2 screws and 2 clips.
- Partially remove the front fender liner LH.
HINT:
Do not remove the front fender liner LH completely, but partially so that the front bumper cover can be removed.
- REMOVE FRONT FENDER LINER RH
- Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
- REMOVE RADIATOR LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR
- Using a clip remover, remove the 8 clips and radiator lower air deflector.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER
- Remove the 9 screws.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the clip.
- Disconnect the 4 connectors.
- Disconnect the hooks and remove the front bumper cover.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE BAR SUB-ASSY RH
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the nut and front bumper side bar.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE BAR SUB-ASSY LH
- Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT RH
- Remove the bolt and front bumper side support.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT LH
- Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER STAY NO.2 RH
- Remove the screw and front bumper stay.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER STAY NO.2 LH
- Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSY
- Disconnect the cooler thermistor connector.
- Remove the 6 bolts and front bumper reinforcement.
- REMOVE COOLER (AMBIENT TEMP. SENSOR) THERMISTOR
- Using a clip remover, remove the cooler thermistor.
- REMOVE FOG LAMP ASSY RH (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FOG LAMP ASSY LH (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE SIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMP LENS RH
- Remove the nut and side turn signal lamp lens.
- REMOVE SIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMP LENS LH
- Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER EXTENSION MOUNTING BRACKET
- Remove the 2 bolts and front bumper extension mounting bracket.
- REMOVE FRONT BUMPER HOLE COVER RH
- Disconnect the hooks and remove the front bumper hole cover.
- INSTALL FRONT BUMPER REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSY
- Install the front bumper reinforcement with 6 bolts.
Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf.cm, 53 ft.lbf)
- Install the front bumper reinforcement with 6 bolts.
- INSTALL FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT RH
- Install the front bumper side support with bolt.
Torque: 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 76 in.lbf)
- Install the front bumper side support with bolt.
- INSTALL FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT LH
- Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
