Front Bumper: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

HINT:

  • Installation is in the reverse order of removal. However, when there is a special point concerning installation, it is indicated.
  • A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (see STANDARD BOLT ).
  1. REMOVE FRONT FENDER LINER LH 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and 2 clips.

    3. Partially remove the front fender liner LH.

    HINT:

    Do not remove the front fender liner LH completely, but partially so that the front bumper cover can be removed.

  2. REMOVE FRONT FENDER LINER RH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
  3. REMOVE RADIATOR LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 8 clips and radiator lower air deflector.
  4. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER 
    1. Remove the 9 screws.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the clip.
    3. Disconnect the 4 connectors.
    4. Disconnect the hooks and remove the front bumper cover.

  5. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE BAR SUB-ASSY RH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts.
    2. Remove the nut and front bumper side bar.
  6. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE BAR SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  7. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT RH 
    1. Remove the bolt and front bumper side support.
  8. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  9. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER STAY NO.2 RH 
    1. Remove the screw and front bumper stay.
  10. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER STAY NO.2 LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  11. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER 
  12. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the cooler thermistor connector.
    2. Remove the 6 bolts and front bumper reinforcement.
  13. REMOVE COOLER (AMBIENT TEMP. SENSOR) THERMISTOR 
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the cooler thermistor.
  14. REMOVE FOG LAMP ASSY RH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  15. REMOVE FOG LAMP ASSY LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  16. REMOVE SIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMP LENS RH 
    1. Remove the nut and side turn signal lamp lens.
  17. REMOVE SIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMP LENS LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  18. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER EXTENSION MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and front bumper extension mounting bracket.
  19. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER HOLE COVER RH 
    1. Disconnect the hooks and remove the front bumper hole cover.
  20. INSTALL FRONT BUMPER REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSY 
    1. Install the front bumper reinforcement with 6 bolts.

      Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf.cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

  21. INSTALL FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT RH 
    1. Install the front bumper side support with bolt.

      Torque: 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 76 in.lbf) 

  22. INSTALL FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT LH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
