Diagnostic Procedure
Turn ignition on and retrieve DTCs. If DTC B1223/23 is present before operating power window switch on front passenger door or if DTC B1223/23 is not present while operating power window switch on front passenger door, test power window switch. Front passenger door ECU is also referred to as power window switch. See FRONT PASSENGER DOOR CONTROL SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING under BODY CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON article under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If switch tests okay, check and repair wiring harness. See POWER WINDOWS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
