Oil Pressure Relief Valve: Removal

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Removal

  1. Remove the oil pan. (Refer to REMOVALΒ  )
  2. To remove the relief valve, proceed as follows:
    1. Remove the cotter pin that retains the retainer cap.
    2. Drill a 3.175 mm (1/8 inch.) hole into the relief valve retainer cap
    3. Insert a self-threading sheet metal screw into cap.
    4. Using a suitable slide hammer tool, remove retainer cap. Discard retainer cap
    5. Remove spring and relief valve (Fig 1 ).
