Side AIR Bag Module

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Side AIR Bag Module

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONSΒ . Disable air bag system See DISABLING SYSTEMΒ  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Ensure seat back is not loose. If components are loose, remove loose components and deploy using OFF-VEHICLE DEPLOYMENTΒ  procedure. Test Deployment Tool (09082-00700). See TESTING DEPLOYMENT TOOLΒ .
  2. Disconnect appropriate side air bag Yellow connector, located under seat. Connect deployment tool, using Deployment Tool Sub-Harness Adapter (09082-00750), to appropriate air bag connector. Position deployment tool at least 33 feet (10 meters) from front of vehicle. Close all vehicle doors and windows. Connect deployment tool Red clip to positive battery terminal and Black clip to negative battery terminal of 12 volt battery.
  3. Ensure no one is inside vehicle or within 33 feet (10 meters) of vehicle. Press activation switch to deploy air bag. Because of heat, DO NOT touch air bag for at least 30 minutes after deployment. Scrap vehicle with deployed air bag(s) installed.
