2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONSΒ . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEMΒ  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove 2 seat track covers, 4 bolts, disconnect Yellow side air bag connector, then remove front seat. See Fig 1. Remove reclining adjuster release handle and reclining adjuster knob.
  2. Remove front seat cushion shield. Remove screw and inner front seat cushion shield. See Fig 1. Remove wire harness from seat cushion assembly, remove 4 bolts and seat cushion assembly. Remove hog rings at lower seat back frame. Remove 4 bolts and seat back assembly. Remove side air bag module from seat back assembly.
  3. To install reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEMΒ  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check the AIR BAG warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ .
