Radiator ASSY: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT   ) 
  2. DISCONNECT RADIATOR RESERVE TANK HOSE OR PIPE 
  3. DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE INLET 
  4. DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE OUTLET 
  5. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER OUTLET HOSE NO.2 (A/T) 
  6. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER OUTLET HOSE NO.3 (A/T) 
  7. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner inlet.

  8. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER 
    1. Disconnect the 2 horn connectors.
    2. Remove the hood lock release lever cover.

    3. Remove the bolt shown in Fig 3 .
    4. Remove the 4 bolts and radiator support.

  9. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the fan motor connector.
    2. Remove the radiator from the body.
  10. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT LOWER 
  11. REMOVE FAN ASSY W/MOTOR 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and fan from the radiator.
  12. INSTALL FAN ASSY W/MOTOR 
    1. Install the fan to the radiator with the 3 bolts.

    Torque:  5.0 N.m (51 kgf.Cm, 44 in.lbf)

  13. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSY 
    1. Install the radiator to the body.
    2. Connect the fan motor connector.
  14. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER 
    1. Install the radiator support with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:  14 N.m (142 kgf.cm,10 ft-lbf)

    2. Connect the 2 horn connectors.
  15. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET ASSY 
    1. Install the air cleaner inlet with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:  5.0 N.m (51 kgf.Cm, 44 in.lbf)

  16. ADJUST HOOD SUB-ASSY (See  ADJUSTMENT  ) 
  17. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT   ) 
  18. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   )
