Throttle Body ASSY: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  2. w/ Performance rod: 

    REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BRACE CENTER 

    1. Remove the 2 nuts and upper brace.
  3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a 5 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the 3 nuts.
    2. Remove the V-bank cover.
  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET NO. 2 (See  STARTERS  )

  5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSY (See  STARTERS  ) 
  6. REMOVE INTAKE AIR RESONATOR 
    1. Remove the ventilation hose No. 2.
    2. Remove the fuel vapor feed hose from the 2 hose clamps.
    3. Loosen the air cleaner hose clamp bolt, and then remove the intake air resonator.

  7. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the throttle control motor & throttle position sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the water by-pass hose No. 2.
    3. Disconnect the water by-pass hose No. 3.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and throttle body.

    5. Remove the gasket.
  8. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSY 
    1. Install a new gasket to the intake air connector.
    2. Install the throttle body with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 11 N.m (112 kgf.cm, 8 ft-lbf) 

    3. Connect the water by-pass hose No. 3.
    4. Connect the water by-pass hose No. 2.
    5. Connect the throttle control motor & throttle position sensor connector.
  9. INSTALL INTAKE AIR RESONATOR 
  10. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSY (See  STARTERS  ) 
  11. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET NO. 2 (See  STARTERS  ) 
  12. CHECK CONNECTION OF VACUUM HOSE (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  13. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  14. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  INSPECTION  ) 
  15. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSY 
    1. Fit the 2 retainers and install the V-bank cover.
    2. Using a 5 mm socket hexagon wrench 5, tighten the 3 nuts.

      Torque: 7.9 N.m (81 kgf.cm, 70 in.lbf) 

  16. w/ Performance Rod: 

INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BRACE CENTER 

  1. Install the upper brace with the 2 nuts.

    Torque: 80 N.m (815 kgf.cm, 59 ft-lbf)
