Inspection Procedure

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK HORN ASSY 
    1. Press the horn switch and check if the horns sound.
      1. If the horns sound, proceed to A.
      2. If the horns do not sound, proceed to B.
    1. B : Go to step 2 
    2. A : REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ENGINE ROOM R/B - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the 1A J/B connector.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard: 

      CONNECTOR SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1A-2 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : Go to Next Step. 
  3. CHECK HORN ASSY 
    1. Connect terminals 3 and 5 of the HORN relay on the engine room J/B side and check if the horns sound normally.
      1. If the high and low pitched horns sound, proceed to A.
      2. If only the low pitched horn sounds, proceed to B.
      3. If only the high pitched horn sounds, proceed to C.
      4. If the high and low pitched horns do not sound, proceed to D.
    1. B : REPLACE HORN ASSY (HIGH PITCHED) 
    2. C : REPLACE HORN ASSY (LOW PITCHED) 
    3. D : Go to step   7 
    4. A : Go to Next Step. 
  4. INSPECT FUSE (HORN) 
    1. Remove the HORN fuse from the engine room J/B.
    2. Measure the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω 

    1. NG : REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK : Go to Next Step. 
  5. INSPECT RELAY (HORN) 
    1. Remove the HORN relay from the engine room J/B.
    2. Measure the resistance of the relay.

      Standard: 

      CONNECTOR SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Below 1 Ω (when battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2)
    1. NG : REPLACE RELAY 
    2. OK : Go to Next Step. 
  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the 2D J/B connector.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard: 

      CONNECTOR SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      2D-11 (HORN) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
  7. CHECK HORN ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the H8 and H9 connectors.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      CONNECTOR SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      H8-1 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      H9-1 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : REPLACE HORN ASSY
