Inspection Procedure

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTUATOR CHECK 
    1. Set the actuator check mode (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).
    2. Press the blower switch to change to the step operation.
    3. Check the air flow level by hand.
      DISPLAY CODE/BLOWER LEVEL

      OK: 

      Blower level changes in accordance with each display code. 

    1. NG: Go to step   2 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (SEE  TERMINALS OF ECU  ) 
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - A/C AMPLIFIER) (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - A/C AMPLIFIER RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - A/C AMPLIFIER RESISTANCE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      A11-31 (BLW) - B4-2 (S1) Always Below 1 Ω
      A11-31 (BLW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BODY GROUND) (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      B4-1 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  4. INSPECT BLOWER W/FAN MOTOR SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the blower w/ fan motor sub-assy.
    2. Connect positive (+) lead to terminal 2 of the blower motor connector and negative (-) lead to terminal 1.

      Standard: Blower motor operates smoothly.

    1. NG: REPLACE BLOWER W/FAN MOTOR SUB-ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  5. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO.3 (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO. 3 CONNECTOR TERMINAL RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO. 3 CONNECTOR TERMINAL RESISTANCE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      II1-1 - B4-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      II1-3 - B3-1 Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO. 3 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BLOWER MOTOR) (SEE  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BLOWER MOTOR RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER - BLOWER MOTOR RESISTANCE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      B4-4 (VM) - B3-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      B4-3 (+B) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  7. INSPECT AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER (BLW - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the A/C amplifier with the connectors still connected.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Turn the blower switch on (Lo).

    4. Measure the waveform between terminal BLW (A11-31) of the A/C amplifier and body ground.

      OK: 

      Waveform operate as shown in  Fig 7  .

    HINT:

    Waveform varies with the blower level.

    1. NG: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
    2. OK: REPLACE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL
