Drive Belt: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH 
  2. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
  3. REMOVE V (COOLER COMPRESSOR TO CRANKSHAFT PULLEY) BELT NO. 1 
    1. Loosen bolts A and B.
    2. Loosen adjusting bolt C and remove the belt.

  4. REMOVE VANE PUMP V BELT 
    1. Loosen bolts A and B, and remove the belt.

  5. INSTALL VANE PUMP V BELT 
    1. Install the belt on each pulley.
    2. Using a bar, adjust the belt tension and tighten bolt B.

      Torque: 43 N.m (439 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

    3. Tighten bolt A

      Torque: 43 N.m (439 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf)

  6. INSTALL V (COOLER COMPRESSOR TO CRANKSHAFT PULLEY) BELT NO. 1 
    1. Install the belt on each pulley.
    2. Tighten adjusting bolt C, and adjust the belt tension.
    3. First tighten bolt A, then B.

      Torque: 

      58 N.m (591 kgf.cm, 43 ft.lbf) for bolt A 

      18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) for bolt B

  7. INSPECT DRIVE BELT TENSION (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  8. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL RH
