ECM (1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE): Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  3. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 1 (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  6. REMOVE ECM 
    1. Remove the 2 wire harness clamps.
    2. Disconnect the 5 ECM connectors.
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM.

  7. REMOVE ECM BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and ECM bracket.

  8. REMOVE ECM BRACKET NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and ECM bracket.

  9. INSTALL ECM BRACKET NO. 2 
    1. Install the ECM bracket with the 2 screws.

  10. INSTALL ECM BRACKET 
    1. Install the ECM bracket with the 2 screws.

  11. INSTALL ECM 
    1. Install the 2 wire harness clamps.
    2. Connect the 5 ECM connectors.
    3. Install the ECM with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)

  12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  13. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 1 (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  14. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  15. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (FROM JULY, 2003)  ) 
  16. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
