Inspection Procedure

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Inspection Procedure

  1. DO ACTIVE TEST OF OBD II SCAN TOOL OR LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Check that the turn signal light can operate in an ACTIVE TEST.

    Driver Side J/B ECU: 

    DRIVER SIDE J/B ECUS INSPECTION

    Description (Symbols) Tester display Check condition
    Turn signal Left TRN SIG LGT L ON - OFF
    Turn signal Right TRN SIG LGT R ON - OFF

    LH and RH can be checked with test separately.

    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOM TABLE, see  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  . 
    2. NG: Go to next step 
  2. INSPECT TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 3.

    3. Connect the 2 turn signal light bulbs parallel to each other to terminals 1 and 3, check that the bulbs flash.

    HINT:

    • The turn signal lights should flash 60 or 120 times per minute.
    • If one of the front or rear turn signal lights has an open circuit, the number of flashers will be more than 140 per minute.
    1. NG: REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between driver side J/B and turn signal flasher relay.
    2. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between turn signal flasher relay and body ground.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOM TABLE, SEE  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  .
