2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE OF OBD II SCAN TOOL OR LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to DLC 3.
    2. Check the door courtesy switch using DATA LIST.

    Driver Door ECU: 

    Driver Door ECU INSPECTION

    Passenger Door ECU: 

    PASSENGER DOOR ECU INSPECTION

    Description Tester display Check condition
    Courtesy switch COURTESY SW ON - OFF
    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOM TABLE, SEE  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  . 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. INSPECT COURTESY LAMP ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the door courtesy light comes on when the door is open, and goes off when closed.

      OK: 

      MUST BE OPERATED NORMALLY. 

    1. OK: REPLACE COURTESY LAMP ASSEMBLY 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect door courtesy switch continuity.
      1. Check that the continuity exists between terminals 1 and body ground, when switch is operated.

      Standard: 

      ON (when shaft is pressed): No continuity 

      OFF (when shaft is not pressed): Continuity 

    1. NG: REPLACE FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Inspect the harness and connectors related to each light or switch, referring to the wiring diagram.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOM TABLE, see  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  .
