Section 523 (Transmission Control System): Coolant: Replacement

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Replacement

  1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  3. DRAIN COOLANT 
    1. Remove the transaxle-side reserve tank cap.
      NOTE: Do not remove the reserve tank cap when the engine is hot.
    2. Remove the plug shown in the illustration and drain the coolant.
    3. Install the plug using a new gasket.
      1. Torque: 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf)

  4. ADD COOLANT 
    1. Loosen the bleeder plug shown in the illustration and connect a hose.
      NOTE: Insert one end of the hose into the bleeder tank.
    2. Add coolant from the bleeder tank.
      NOTE: Add genuine Toyota Super LLC coolant.
