Adjust Shift Lever Operation

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Adjust Shift Lever Operation

  1. Remove the steering column lower cover, see step 4 of REMOVAL , and INSTRUMENT LOWER FINISH PANEL RH.
  2. Shift into the P position.
  3. Loosen the control cable adjusting nut.

  4. Release the parking brake and push the vehicle back and forth to check that it does not move.

    After the check, depress the brake pedal.

  5. While pushing the shift lever toward P range side, lightly pull the rod of the control cable once and release it.
  6. While pushing the shift lever toward P range side, tighten the adjusting part of the control cable.
  7. Install the steering column lower cover, see step 14 of INSTALLATION , and INSTRUMENT LOWER FINISH PANEL RH.
