Starter Relay Test

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Starter Relay Test

  1. Locate and remove starter relay. Starter relay is marked "ST". Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between relay terminals No. 3 and 5 without battery voltage applied through terminals 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Ensure resistance is within specification. See STARTER RELAY CONDITIONSΒ . If not as specified replace the relay. If as specified go to step Β 2.
  2. Check relay operation by applying battery voltage through terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Measure resistance between terminals No. 3 and 5. Ensure resistance is within specification. See STARTER RELAY CONDITIONSΒ . If relay does not test as indicated, replace relay. If as specified, install relay.
STARTER RELAY CONDITIONS

Ohmmeter Connection Resistance
Terminal 3 To 5 With No Battery Voltage Applied Through Terminal 1 & 2 10,000 Ohms Or More
Terminal 3 To 5 With Battery Voltage Applied Through Terminal 1 & 2 Less Than One Ohm.
