2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION For Diagnosis & Testing

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector, accessible by removing right under cover, No. 2 garnish and finish panel assembly. See Fig 1. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect air bag sensor assembly connectors. See AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right and left front air bag sensors. See FRONT AIR BAG SENSORS . Disconnect right and left front seat belt pretensioners. See FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right and left rear seat belt pretensioners. See REAR SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Disconnect right and left side air bag modules. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right and left head impact/side air bag sensors. See HEAD IMPACT/SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLIES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right and left side head impact sensors. See HEAD IMPACT AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLIES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
