Park/Neutral Position Switch

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Park/Neutral Position Switch

  1. Check that engine can only be started with shift lever in the "N" or "P" positions, not in any other. If so, proceed to adjust Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
  2. Adjust PNP switch using the following steps:
    1. Loosen bolt of PNP switch and set shift lever to "N" position.
    2. Align the groove and neutral basic line. See Fig 1.
    3. Hold switch in position and tighten 2 bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (13 N.m).
    4. After adjustment, perform inspection as described in step Β 1.
