2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION With Hand-Held Tester

  1. Connect hand-held tester to (DLC3). See Figure.
  2. Check that shift lever is at P. Turn steering wheel to straight ahead position.
  3. Start engine and check that VSC warning light flashes. If light does not flash, check VSC warning light circuit and Ts terminal circuit. See SYSTEM TESTINGΒ .
  4. If a new skid control ECU is installed, start engine and keep vehicle stationary on a flat surface for 3 seconds or more. This should set zero point calibration of yaw rate sensor.
  5. Turn steering wheel either left or right to full lock position and back to straight ahead position. This will check steering angle sensor.
  6. Shift lever to D and drive vehicle at approximately 3 MPH . Turn steering wheel either left or right 90Β° or more and continue until completing a 180Β° or more turn. Do not spin wheels. Stop vehicle and shift lever to P. Ensure VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
  7. If VSC buzzer sounds, sensor check is normal. If buzzer does not sound, check VSC buzzer circuit. Then do sensor check again. See TEST H: VSC BUZZER CIRCUITΒ  under SYSTEM TESTING.
  8. If buzzer still won't sound, there is a malfunction in VSC sensor. Check DTC. If DTC is retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONSΒ .
