Wheel Speed Sensor (Rear): Removal

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Removal

  1. Remove rear wheel.
  2. Disconnect the connector from the wheel speed sensor. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove brake caliper assembly and disc. See DISC article.
  4. Remove the 4 bolts and rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
  5. Mount the rear axle hub in a soft jaw vise. Using a pin punch and hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from special tool (09520-00031). Using special tool (09520-00031), (09520-00040), (09521-00020) and (09950-00020) and 2 bolts (diameter: (12 mm), pitch: (1.5 mm), remove the speed sensor from the rear axle hub. See Fig 2.
