Lights OFF/ON Function
- Turn ignition on. Turn light control combination switch to AUTO position. Gradually cover top of automatic light control sensor. Ensure lights go off under the following conditions:
- Light control combination switch is turned to OFF position.
- Area surrounding automatic light control sensor gets bright (sensor uncovered).
- Driver door is opened with ignition off.
- Open driver door with ignition off. Turn light control combination switch to AUTO position. With driver door open, cover top of automatic light control sensor and turn ignition switch on. Lights should come on.
If operation is as specified but complaint is headlight illumination is too early or too late, adjust sensitivity of sensor. See AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSORΒ under ADJUSTMENTS. If system is inoperative or operation is abnormal, diagnose system. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT to determine if fault is in control circuitry or lighting system components.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
