  1. Remove the ECM hood. Turn the ignition switch ON. Measure voltage between terminal STA of the ECM connector E6 and body ground during engine cranking. See Fig 1. If 6 volts or more are present with ignition switch in START position, and no voltage is present with ignition switch in ON position, system is okay. Problem is intermittent. If not, go to next step.

  2. Check ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Repair as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
  3. Check park/neutral position switch. See DTC P0705: PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH MALFUNCTIONΒ . Replace switch as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
  4. Check for open in harness and connector between ECM and park/neutral position switch. See Fig 1. Repair as necessary. If okay, replace ECM.
