Section 11 (Automatic Transmission Unit - U341E): Removal

2004 Toyota Celica GT, StandardSECTION Removal

  1. REMOVE HOOD 
    1. Torque: 13 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf) 
  2. REMOVE BATTERY 
  3. REMOVE ECM AND ECM CASE 
    1. Torque: 6.9 N.m (70 kgf.cm, 61 in..lbf) 
  4. REMOVE ECM BRACKET 
    1. Torque: 
    2. Bolt: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) Nut: 12 N.m (120 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf) 
  5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 
  6. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER 
    1. Torque: 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in..lbf)

  7. REMOVE 2 GROUND CABLES 
    1. Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 
  8. DISCONNECT CONTROL CABLE FROM CLAMP 
  9. DISCONNECT INPUT TURBINE SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR 
  10. REMOVE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR 
  11. REMOVE 2 UPPER SIDE TRANSAXLE MOUNTING BOLTS FROM TRANSAXLE 
    1. Torque: 64 N.m (650 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf)

  12. DISCONNECT SOLENOID CONNECTOR AND PARK/ NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR 

    Disconnect the solenoid connector and park/neutral position switch connector.

  13. DISCONNECT CONTROL CABLE 
    1. Remove the nut from the control shift lever
      1. Torque: 12 N.m (120 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf) 
    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable.

  14. REMOVE BOLT AND DISCONNECT RADIATOR RESERVOIR 
    1. Torque: 4.9 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 43 in..lbf) 
  15. REMOVE STARTER 
    1. Remove the nut and wire, and disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.
      1. Torque: 37 N.m (378 kgf.cm, 28 ft.lbf) 
  16. REMOVE LH, RH, CENTER ENGINE UNDER COVERS

  17. DRAIN ATF FROM FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE Torque: 54 N.m (550 kgf.cm, 40 ft.lbf) 
  18. REMOVE LH AND RH DRIVE SHAFTS 
    1. (See  REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  )

  19. DISCONNECT LH AND RH STABILIZER BAR LINKS FROM SHOCK ABSORBER 
    1. Torque: 44 N.m (450 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf)

  20. REMOVE 4 BOLTS AND DISCONNECT PS GEAR ASSEMBLY 

    HINT:

    Support the PS gear assembly securely.

    1. Torque: 45 N.m (459 kgf.cm, 33 ft.lbf)

  21. REMOVE SUSPENSION MEMBER 
    1. Remove the 9 bolts and 3 nuts.
      1. Torque: 
      2. Bolt A: 157 N.m (1,601 kgf.cm, 116 ft.lbf) 
      3. Bolt B: 52 N.m (530 kgf.cm, 38 ft.lbf) 
      4. Bolt C: 39 N.m (398 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) 
      5. Nut: 52 N.m (530 kgf.cm, 38 ft.lbf) 
    2. Remove the suspension member.

  22. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING INSULATOR 

    Remove the bolt and engine rear mounting insulator.

    1. Torque: 87 N.m (890 kgf.cm, 64 ft.lbf)

  23. ATTACH ENGINE SLING DEVICE TO ENGINE HANGERS 
    1. Disconnect the 2 PCV hoses.
    2. Install the No. 1 and No. 2 engine hangers in the correct direction.
      1. Parts No.: 
      2. No. 1 engine hanger: 12281-88600 
      3. No. 2 engine hanger: 12282-88600 
      4. Bolt: 91512-61020 
      5. Torque: 38 N.m (387 kgf.cm, 28 ft.lbf) 
    3. Attach the engine chain hoist to the engine hangers.
      CAUTION: Do not attempt to hang the engine by hooking the chain to any other part.
