OBD II scan tool (excluding hand-held tester)

2004 Toyota Celica GT, StandardSECTION OBD II scan tool (excluding hand-held tester)
  1. Check voltage between terminal STA of ECM connector and body ground. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Remove the ECM cover.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between terminal STA of the ECM connector and body ground during the engine cranking.

    OK: 

    Voltage: 

    0 V (Ignition switch ON) 

    6 V or more (Engine cranking) 

    1. OK : Go to step   5 . 
    2. NG : Go to next step. 
  2. Check park/neutral position switch or clutch start switch. 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch (A/T) (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION ).
    2. Inspect the clutch start switch (M/T) (See INSPECTION ).
    1. NG : Replace park/neutral position switch or clutch start switch. Go to next step   5  after the replacement. 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  3. Check ignition switch. 

    Check continuity between the connector terminals shown in the chart below.

    CONNECTOR TERMINAL RESISTANCE

    Switch Terminal No. Resistance
    LOCK All Terminal to Terminal 1 MΩ or more
    ACC 2 - 3 1 Ω or less
    ON 2 - 3 - 4
    6 - 7
    1 Ω or less
    START 1 - 2 - 4
    6 - 7 - 8
    1 Ω or less
    1. NG : Replace ignition switch. Go to next step   5  after the replacement. 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  4. Check voltage between terminal STA of ECM connector and body ground. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Remove the ECM cover.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between terminal STA of the ECM connector and body ground during the engine cranking.

    OK: 

    Voltage: 

    0 V (Ignition switch ON) 

    6 V or more (Engine cranking) 

    1. NG : Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  5. Check DTC reoccur 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the OBD II scan tool main switch ON.
    3. Clear DTC (See PRE-CHECK  ).
    4. Drive the vehicle more than 40 km/h (25 mph) for 20 seconds or more.

    CHECK: 

    Check DTC reoccur.

    RESULT: 

    DISPLAY DTC OUTPUT

    Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
    P0617 A
    No DTC output B
    1. A : Replace ECM (See  Engine Control Module (ECM)  ) 
    2. B : Check for intermittent problems (See  PRE-CHECK   )
