Introduction

An updated procedure for turning Passive Mode "ON" and "OFF" for vehicles with the factory installed Theft Deterrent System can be found below.

NOTE:
^ Passive Mode "ON" - Automatically activates the Theft Deterrent System alarm if the ignition key is not inserted into the ignition within a pre-selected interval from the time the first door is opened. This is also known as "Entry Delay."

^ Passive Mode "OFF" - Theft Deterrent System ignores key insertion time as a trigger for the alarm.

Applicable vehicles
^ 2002 model year Avalon, Camry and Highlander vehicles with factory installed Vehicles Theft Deterrent Systems.

NOTE:
The vehicle will have Passive Mode "OFF" as the default setting.





Warranty Information

Programming Turning Passive Mode "ON" Procedure

1. Remove the ignition key from the key cylinder.

2. Open the hood and raise it to the full open position.

3. Make sure that the trunk and passenger doors are closed.

4. Enter the vehicle and close the door.

5. Verify that all doors are unlocked.

> Perform steps 6, 7 and 8 within 30 seconds.

6. Using the Wireless Transmitter "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the power locks 3 times.

7. Open the driver's door.

8. "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the driver's door Manual Lock Knob 3 times.

9. Within 2 seconds of step 8, the power locks will cycle once.

> Perform steps 10, 11 and 12 within 20 seconds.

10. Move the driver's door Manual Lock Knob to "UNLOCK."





11. Close and open the driver's door the number of times corresponding to the requested entry delay time as shown.

12. "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the driver's door Manual Lock Knob once.

13. Within 2 seconds of step 12, the power locks will cycle once, confirming that the Passive Mode is "ON."

Turning Passive Mode "OFF"

1. Remove the ignition key from the key cylinder.

2. Open the hood and raise it to the full open position.

3. Make sure that the trunk and passenger doors are closed.

4. Enter the vehicle and close the door.

5. Verify that all doors are unlocked.

> Perform steps 6, 7 and 8 within 30 seconds.

6. Using the Wireless Transmitter "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the power locks 3 times.

7. Open the driver's door.

8. "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the driver's door Manual Lock Knob 3 times.

9. Within 2 seconds of step 8, the power locks will cycle once.

> Perform steps 10, 11 and 12 within 20 seconds.

10. Move the driver's door Manual Lock Knob to "UNLOCK."

11. Close and open the driver's door 2 times.

12. "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" the driver's door Manual Lock Knob once.

13. Within 2 seconds of step 12, the power locks will cycle once, confirming that the Passive Mode is now "OFF."
