Steering Gear: Inspection

1995 Toyota T100 DX, RWD, StandardSECTION Inspection
  1. Clamp sector shaft in soft-jawed vise. Measure thrust clearance of sector shaft adjusting screw. Thrust clearance should be 0.0012-0.0020" (0.030-0.050 mm).
  2. If thrust clearance is not within specification, unstake lock nut. Adjust lock nut to obtain specified thrust clearance. Restake lock nut. Inspect components for damage. Replace components if necessary.
  3. Clamp bolt hole area of worm gear valve body assembly in soft-jawed vise. Ensure power piston moves freely. Using dial indicator, measure movement of power piston when pushing piston toward top of worm shaft. Replace valve body and power piston assembly if movement exceeds 0.006" (0.15 mm).
