Ignition Switch Column Lock Assembly: Removal
1992 Toyota Tercel DX, 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Removal
- Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEELΒ . Remove upper and lower steering column covers. On some models it may be necessary to remove combination switch to provide access to lock cylinder retaining bolts. Locate and disconnect ignition switch harness connector(s).
- If shear bolt studs are accessible on column lock assembly, use a hacksaw to cut a slot into exposed studs. Using a flat head screwdriver, remove studs. To access shear bolts on some models, it may be necessary to remove column mounting bolts in order to lower steering column from dash brace.
- If shear bolt studs are recessed, center punch stud heads. Using a drill bit and a screw extractor, remove studs. Remove steering column lock assembly from column.
