Starter Component Inspection: Commutator

- If commutator runout (out-of-round) is more than .002" (.05 mm), turn commutator on a suitable lathe until runout is within specification.
- Wear or cutting limit of commutator diameter is 1.22" (31.0 mm) for Cressida and 1.14" (29.0 mm) for all other models.
- If commutator diameter is worn or turned down more than .008"(.20 mm), undercut insulating mica between commutator segments to a depth of about .008-.024" (.20-.60 mm).
