Air Injection System Test: Notes

1990 Toyota Tercel Base, 2D Coupe, StandardSECTION Notes
NOTE: Pickup (22R) is equipped with air injection.
  1. Inspect air pump belt. Visually check hoses and tubes for cracks, kinks, damage, or loose connections. Disconnect Air By-Pass Valve (ABV) hose from air cleaner.
  2. With coolant temperature less than 43°F (6°C), start engine and set at idle. Air should discharge from ABV hose. With engine at operating temperature, check operation of ABV and Air Switching Valve (ASV). Air should stop discharging from ABV hose.
  3. Increase engine speed and than quickly close throttle. Air should momentarily discharge from ABV hose. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Air should discharge from ABV hose.
