Steering Controller - Remove and Replace: Install

2018 Tesla Model 3 BaseSECTION Install
  1. Install the steering wheel controls ECU into the bright surround, and then install the screws (x2) that attach the ECU to the surround.

    0.9 N.m (8 in-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • T10 Torx bit

  2. Install the bright surround into the steering wheel, and then install the screws (x4) that attach the surround to the steering wheel.

    5.4 N.m (4.0 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • T20 socket

  3. Install the electrical harness into the steering wheel, and then connect the electrical harness to the steering wheel controls ECU connector.

  4. Move the horn assembly to the center, and then fasten the clips that attach the horn assembly.

  5. Connect the electrical harness to the RH steering wheel switch connector.

  6. Connect the electrical harness to the LH steering wheel switch connector.

  7. Connect the steering wheel electrical harness to the connector.

  8. Install the driver airbag. See AIRBAG - DRIVER (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  9. Connect 12v power. See 12V/LV POWER (DISCONNECT AND CONNECT) .
  10. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See SOFTWARE REINSTALL - TOUCHSCREEN .
  11. In Toolbox, click Actions, type "SCCM" in the search field, click Play next to "PING-TP_SCCM", and then select Run  .
  12. Click Actions, type "VCLEFT" in the search field, click Play next to "TEST-SELF_ VCLEFT_X_SWC", and then select Run  .
  13. Click Actions, type "TEST-PYRO" in the search field, click Play next to "TEST-PYRO_RCM_X_DAB-STAGE-1", and then select Run  .
  14. Click Actions, type "TEST-PYRO" in the search field, click Play next to "TEST-PYRO_RCM_X_DAB-STAGE-2", and then select Run  .
  15. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  16. Install the rear underhood apron. See UNDERHOOD APRON - REAR (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  17. Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See SEAT CUSHION - LOWER - 2ND ROW (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
