Module - Body Controller - RH (RHD) - Remove and Replace: Install

2018 Tesla Model 3 BaseSECTION Install
  1. Position the shroud by itself in position on the vehicle.
    CAUTION: A shroud should be installed on the body controller module even if one was not present during removal.

    NOTE: Position the shroud vertical and move it up above the computer, and then pivot the lower edge so that the shroud sits horizontally.

  2. Maneuver the RH body controller module into position under the IP carrier, and then install the 2 clips that attach the shroud to the module.

    NOTE: Make sure that both clips are fully seated.
  3. Align the W-clip with the body cutout, and then slide down to attach the RH body controller to the body.
  4. Install new nut that attaches the RH body controller module to the vehicle.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm socket
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 1/4 in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 2 in extension

  5. Install the clip that attaches the wiring harness to the RH body controller.

  6. Move the RH body harness towards the right side of the RH body controller, and then install attach the harness clips (x4) to the RH body controller.

  7. Connect the body 3 electrical connector onto the RH body controller module.

    NOTE: Make sure that the body 3 electrical connector lock is fully engaged.
  8. Connect the body 1 electrical connector onto the RH body controller module.

    NOTE: Make sure that the body 1 electrical connector lock is fully engaged.
  9. Connect the body 2 electrical connector onto the RH body controller module.

    NOTE: Make sure that the body 2 electrical connector lock is fully engaged.
  10. Install the harness clips (x2) onto the lower IP carrier.
  11. Install the DCDC positive cables onto the RH body controller module.

    8.5 N.m (6.3 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm 12-point deep socket
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 1/4 in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 2 in extension

  12. Install new nut that attaches the 12V power cable to the RH body controller module.

    8.5 N.m (6.3 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm 12-point deep socket
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 1/4 in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 4 in extension

  13. Connect the inline electrical connector, and then attach it to the RH body controller module.

  21. Install the nuts that attach the RH carpet locator bracket onto the vehicle.

    2.5 N.m (1.8 ft-lbs)

  22. Fold the RH front carpet back to its original position.
  23. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See TRIM - A-PILLAR - LOWER - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  24. Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See TRIM - A-PILLAR - MIDDLE - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  25. Install the RH footwell duct. See DUCT - FOOTWELL - RH (RHD) (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  26. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV POWER (DISCONNECT AND CONNECT) .
  27. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See SOFTWARE REINSTALL - TOUCHSCREEN .
  28. In Toolbox, click Actions  , type "PROC_VCRIGHT" in the search field, click the Play button next to "PROC_VCRIGHT_X-POST-REPLACEMENT-PROCEDURE", and then select Run  .
    NOTE: Perform this step with the doors closed. The windows and seats will move during this process.
  29. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
