Engine Start

WARNING: If you do not take proper precautions when performing the engine start check as described below, the vehicle could move without warning causing personal injury and/or property damage. When checking the ignition system as described below, be sure to take the following precautions:
  • Provide adequate space around the vehicle.
  • Firmly apply both the parking brake and the service brake.
  • Do not use the accelerator pedal.
  • Turn off the ignition immediately if the engine starts.

On CVT vehicles, try to start the engine in each select lever position. The starting motor should crank only in "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral).

On manual transaxle vehicles, place the shift lever in "Neutral," depress clutch pedal halfway and try to start.

Starting motor should crank only when clutch is fully depressed.
