SERVICE INFORMATION
When following instructions for removing the "A" pillar trim, it is necessary to cut the "tether" portion of the retaining clip. As an example, the 2010MY and later Legacy / Outback and 2012MY Impreza (except WRX & STI) Remote Engine Start (RES) kits include a replacement "A" pillar trim clip. Whenever the "A" pillar trim is removed, it is imperative to replace this clip and to not attempt to repair or reuse it as the design of the clip is important for smooth operation of the air bag. The clip is designed to "catch" the trim piece during an airbag deployment, keeping it from coming free and hitting the vehicle occupant(s) in the event of a crash.
