Air Bag Warning Light Always On

2004 Subaru Baja Base, StandardSECTION Air Bag Warning Light Always On

NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONSΒ . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ . Remove left side sill cover. Check for poor connection at connectors AB1 and B31. See Fig 1. Ensure contact is secure between connectors AB1 and B31. If there is good contact, go to next step. If there is poor contact, repair body harness or replace air bag main harness.
  2. Ensure contact is secure between air bag control module and connector AB6. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULEΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If there is good contact, go to next step. If there is poor contact, replace air bag main harness or replace air bag control module.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 20 seconds. Connect connectors AB1 and B31. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. Pull out 2 stopper pins and lower glove box. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I2" (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Fig 2. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (with engine off). Connect test harness "I2", connectors 4I and 5I together. If AIR BAG warning light is on, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light is off, replace air bag main harness or replace instrument cluster printed circuit or repair body harness as necessary.
    NOTE: When problem has been corrected, disconnect connectors 4I and 5I.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I2", connector 2I, terminal No. 9. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I2", connector 2I, terminal No. 10. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace air bag control module, If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace air bag main harness or repair body harness.
