Select Lever: Installation
2002 Subaru Forester BaseSECTION Installation
- Mount the select lever onto the vehicle body.
- Tighten the bolts to install the select lever to the vehicle body, then connect connector.
Tightening torque:Β 13 N.m (1.3 kgf-m, 9.4 ft-lb)
- Install console box.
- Set location of select lever at "N" position.
- Set location of select arm installed on the transmission body at "N" position.
- Insert the thread portion of the other inner cable and into the connector hole of the select lever, and fix the other outer cable end to the bracket.
Tightening torque (Cable bracket):Β 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb)
- Adjust the select cable. Refer to ADJUSTMENT under SELECT CABLEΒ .
- Check the following items.
- The engine starts operating when select lever is in position "P" or "N", but not in other positions.
- The back-up light is lit when the select lever is in position "R", but not in other positions.
- Check select lever operation.
WARNING: Stop the engine while checking operation of select lever.- Check that select lever does not move from "N" to "R" without pushing the button.
- Check that select lever does not move from "R" to "P" without pushing the button.
- Check that select lever does not move from "P" to "R" without pushing the button.
- Check that select lever does not move from "3" to "2" without pushing the button.
- Check shift-lock system.
- Ensure ignition switch rotates from "ACC" to "LOCK" when the select lever is set at "P". Also check that ignition key can be removed only from the "LOCK" position.
- Ensure select lever moves from "P" to any other position when the brake pedal is depressed with ignition key set at "ON" or "START".
