Front Axle Shaft: Reassembly
1998 Subaru Forester S, AutomaticSECTION Reassembly
- To reassemble axle shaft, reverse disassembly procedure. Apply 2.82-3.53 oz. (80-100 g) of Grease (NTG2218) to outer joint and boot. Install and tighten boot clamps to specifications. See BOOT CLAMP TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ table. Install inner boot on shaft.
- Align marks on trunion and shaft scribed during removal. Install trunion on shaft. Install snap ring. Apply 3.53-3.88 oz. (100-110 g) of Grease (NTG30B) into outer race. Coat trunion and free rings with grease. Align marks on free rings and trunion scribed during removal. Install free rings. Align marks on shaft and outer race. Install outer race on shaft. Install circlip.
- Evenly apply 1.06-1.41 oz. (30-40 g) of Grease (NTG2218) to inner surface of boot. Ensure inside of larger end of boot and boot groove of outer race are free of grease. Before tightening inner boot clamps, ensure inboard joint is at center of its travel.
