Front Axle Shaft: Disassembly

- Scribe marks on axle shaft and CV joint housing for installation reference. Remove boot clamps on inner boot using screwdriver. DO NOT damage boot. Slide boot from larger end of inboard joint. Pry out and remove circlip located at neck of outer race of inboard joint. Slide outer race from shaft assembly. See Fig 1 .
- Scribe alignment marks on free ring and trunion. See Fig 2 . Remove free rings from trunion. Scribe alignment marks on truni on and axle shaft. See Fig 2 . Remove trunion snap ring, and remove trunion. Wrap axle shaft splines with tape and remove inner boot. Remove outer boot clamps in same manner as described in step 1). Remove outer boot from inboard joint end of axle shaft.
NOTE:
DO NOT disassemble outboard CV joint. If outboard CV joint is defective, replace axle shaft as an assembly.
