Forward Clutch Drum: Reassembly
1998 Subaru Forester L, AutomaticSECTION Reassembly
- Align forward piston cut out portion with spline of drum and install. See Fig 2 . Install overrunning piston. Using spring compressor, install springs, spring retainer and snap ring onto drum.
- Install overrunning clutch dish plate, driven plates, drive plates, pressure plate and snap ring. Ensure correct dish plate installation. See Fig 2 and Figure . Install forward clutch dish plates, driven plates, drive plates, pressure plate and snap rings. Ensure correct dish plate installation. See Fig 2 and Figure . Install front planetary carrier snap ring.
- Check forward clutch and overrunning clutch for operation. Set one-way clutch inner race and apply compressed air to check. Measure clearance between pressure plates and snap rings of forward clutch and overrunning clutch. See FORWARD & OVERRUNNING CLUTCH CLEARANCEΒ table. If clearance is not within specifications, select appropriate pressure plate to obtain proper clearance. See FORWARD CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATEΒ and OVERRUNNING CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATEΒ tables.
- Install one-way clutch needle bearing and snap ring. Install 1st-2nd one-way clutch, plate and snap ring. Set inner race and ensure forward clutch moves freely in clockwise direction and locks in counterclockwise direction. See Fig 1 .
